While ceramic is not a rare element in nature, its processing for watch cases presents significant challenges. Ceramic material boasts high hardness, demanding precise polishing and cutting techniques for the case. Below, I'll share the manufacturing process of the Omega Seamaster 600 ceramic case.
After the first high-temperature firing of ceramic raw materials, the case is polished halfway, and excess powder is scraped off using a small knife.
After the second high-temperature firing, the case becomes too hard for the knife to affect it. Fine polishing is then performed on the outer case. Its hardness is several times that of common metals, producing a pleasant clear sound when struck.
Creating the ceramic bezel of the watch: Thin ceramic bezels are crafted from the unfired ceramic and are further polished after firing to seamlessly integrate with the case. The overall production yield is only 40%. Flawed, broken, incomplete, or missing components are all marked as defective. Finally, manual polishing is carried out to enhance the authentic texture. VS Factory manually polishes every small component, highlighting the meticulousness and high labor cost involved.
The production process of the watch case back: High-temperature firing, forming the case back, waterproof testing, and sapphire crystal pressing require seamless integration with the case. A 30-bar waterproof pressure test certifies that this watch can withstand depths of over 100 meters.
